Serie A 09/10: Milan, Juventus, Roma wins and round-up

AC Milan edged a seven-goal thriller against Cagliari, while Francesco Totti was the hero for Roma.

Elsewhere, Lazio’s winless run continued, Atalanta secured a much-needed victory in their battle to avoid the drop and Juventus claimed a narrow success.

AC Milan are now unbeaten in eight outings, and ensured they remain in touch with city rivals Inter at the summit, after they saw off in-form Cagliari 4-3 at Giuseppe Meazza.
Clarence Seedorf got the goal-fest up and running inside five minutes, but saw his effort cancelled out by Alessandro Matri four minutes later.

Cagliari then went in front through Andrea Lazzari on the half-hour mark, but their lead did not last long.

Two goals in the space of a minute from Marco Borriello (39) and Alexandre Pato (40) had the hosts ahead at the interval.

Ronaldinho then notched from the penalty spot after 62 minutes to put Milan in control, but Nene set up a tense finish when he offered the visitors a lifeline nine minutes later.

Juventus remain in second place, five points behind Inter, after they edged out Udinese 1-0.

Fabio Grosso grabbed the only goal of a disappointing contest six minutes into the second half.

Roma are back up into mid-table after they eased to a 3-1 victory over Bari.

Talismanic skipper Francesco Totti was the star of the show at Stadio Olimpico, as he bagged a hat-trick (6, 14 & 27).

Marco Andreolli put through his own net with 16 minutes remaining, but that was a rare blot on Roma’s copybook.

Sampdoria moved in the UEFA Champions League places on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Chievo.

Marco Rossi put them on their way after 19 minutes and Giampaolo Pazzini added a second on 65 minutes.

Chievo had seen their cause severely hampered by Luciano’s dismissal on the stroke of half-time and they could only muster one in reply, with Andrea Mantovani netting with 10 minutes remaining.

Atalanta gave their survival bid a welcome boost as they secured a 2-0 win away at rock-bottom Siena.

Simeone Tiribocchi (52) and Robert Acquafresca (66) got the goals for Antonio Conte’s side.

Lazio have now gone 11 games since their last success after they were held to a goalless draw at Napoli - who are now unbeaten in six.

Livorno bounced back from consecutive defeats to snatch a dramatic 2-1 victory over Genoa.

Cristiano Lucarelli broke the deadlock after 21 minutes, but Domenico Criscito levelled matters after 63 minutes.

It appeared as though that would be the end of the scoring, but Nico Pulzetti popped up to grab a last-minute winner for the hosts.

Catania remain second from bottom after they were held 1-1 on the road at Palermo.

Giulio Migliaccio needed just four minutes to fire the Sicilians in front, but Jorge Martinezrestored parity 11 minutes into the second half.
